Decent rural employment

Dr. Getachew Abate Kassa, Lena Schickramm

The Chair Group is currently collaborating with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) on a research project that focuses on rural poverty reduction through more and better employment and income opportunities for the poor.  Greater access to decent rural employment (DRE) is recognized as a key component in hunger eradication and poverty alleviation and the importance of DRE is being acknowledged by international organizations and national governments alike. It has also received special attention in global development processes such as the Post-2015 development agenda. The overall purpose of the project is to identify and learn about DRE related policies, strategies and practices and assess and analyze their effects on poverty reduction.  Specific research activities within a PhD and MSc research framework will empirically assess a wide range of specific issues and topics surrounding the concept and promotion of greater opportunities for the rural poor to access decent farm and non-farm employment. Please contact Dr. Getachew Abate Kassa for more information on the project, and Master and Bachelor thesis opportunities in this area.
