After a first successful visit in November 2016, Prof. Dr. Sauer and Sebastian Weber went on a research trip to India again between March 1 and 10, 2017. In partnership with the German Embassy in Delhi, Prof. Dr. Sauer held a Science Circle Lecture on March 3 titled “Revival of the Malthusian Threat? The Importance of Innovation in Agriculture“; around 80 interested people from politics, research and business attended the lecture. On March 4, the chair organized a workshop in the German House for Research and Innovation in Delhi for potential PhD students from the region, who could possibly join the chair team in 2018.
However, at the core of the activities was the further development of the chair’s cooperation with the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) South Asia. As part of this, we went on a field trip to a Climate-Smart Village in the Indian state of Haryana as well as on a 5-day trip to Nepal. In Nepal, we also visited a Climate-Smart Village and built our contacts to researchers and partners in the field of Climate-Smart Agriculture.
