South Asia

Collaboration between PuR and South Asia (India, Nepal and Bangladesh) was first established in 2016 with the aim of ensuring sustainable agricultural production and supporting climate adaptation.

Professor Sauer has traveled several times to India and Bangladesh with the support of the TUM Global Incentive Fund 2016 and 2017. During this time, he established robust connections with CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center in Delhi, India), the Delhi School of Economics, the Agriculture and Forestry University in Rampur, Nepal, East West University Dhaka and World Fish in Dhaka, Bangladesh. 

In 2020, a Bioeconomy International project on agricultural value chain financing of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) technologies in India, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and supported in partnership by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security in South Asia (CCAFS-SA) will begin. This research addresses policy issues relevant to the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Indian policymakers and other international development agencies and research organizations by determining workable financing mechanisms for CSA technologies.
