South America

Supported by the Bavarian University Center for Latin America (BAYLAT), the Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics is currently building a strong network with universities and research institutions in Colombia. Following the historic peace agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC rebels in 2016, there is growing hope for security in rural areas, which is an essential prerequisite for research into sustainable agriculture. For the first time in about 50 years, resource and environmental economic issues can be investigated in the raw material-rich Andean republic. These issues should not be underestimated in their importance for the future development of the country. Together with Colombian partners, the PuR Chair Group will address these questions.

During an initial visit by representatives of the Chair Group to Colombia in spring 2019, contacts were established which serve as a starting point for further cooperation in research and teaching, as well as the exchange of personnel. Cooperation partners include among others the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, the Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, the Universidad del Valle in Cali and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) in Palmira.
